Nate slumped lazily into his armchair. He liked the house to be dark, and tonight was no exception - not a light in the house was on, the only spec of illumination came from the action film he was watching. He contained a smile throughout most of the movie - another macho, USA plus movie. He loved it.
Dayes let his tired eyes close, and just listened for a few seconds. The strong accents, the guns and fast cars. It was quite comforting.
His mind began to wander away from the movie - the mutilations were getting more and more frequent, and more and more freaky. Each time he went to one, he'd get a strange feeling, a knot in his stomach. On top of that people had seen UFO's in this area...he couldn't help falling slightly for the hysteria - maybe, just maybe, a higher race was behind the killings.
Nate just realised - the TV no longer splurted it's noises, the room was dead silent. His eyes sprang open, and the TV was alive with screen distruption. There was no picture, only interference. The Sheriff raised an eyebrow and pushed himself up in the chair taking a few cautious looks around the room. He had that feeling - the knot.
No-one was in the room with him, but the whole house was silent with anticipation. It was as if even the wildlife outside had been silenced.
At that a light from the window caught his eye. It was distant, past the grove and above the mountains across the fields. But it had only just appeared, and it was moving. Darting side to side, then flickering and disapearing for a second, before appearing once more, but this time alot closer.
The Sheriff got to his feet and hurried to the window.
It had already gone....

This must be the place... it had better be... he'd been searching for it for a good hour or so. Despite it being a small town, Diego didn't know his way around, so even when the officer had given him directions to where the Sheriff might be... he was no closer to fiding his target. He hoped the Sheriff might be able to explain a few things... for instance why there was a mutilated humanoid lying in the fields when he drove by... He was just meant to be driving through, on his way back to Harlem... but it seemed he might have to hang around for a while longer, find some answers.
Chugging his car up the drive, his spanish music buzzed out into the peaceful atmosphere, being cut off as he stopped the engine with a quick turn of the key. He stayed in the vehicle for a while, eyes narrowing at the figure he saw in the window... was this the Sheriff? Had he got the right house? He did look... Sheriffy. Pushing open, the door, he stepped out into the soothing sun, something he had gotten used to living ni Mexico. Letting the door drop back into place behind him, he calmly made his way to the door... large fists knocking gently upon its surface.

The Sheriff's heart was racing. Did he see what he thought he saw? Or was it some strange psychic thing going on, caused by him thinking about aliens?
Hispanic music wafted through the air and he watched as a car pulled up on his drive. He didn't recognise the car, nor the large man stepping from it, then walking out of view.
'KNOCK-KNOCK'.
The Sheriff wiped his forehead briefly and then rushed to the door. He opened it and looked around, past the man at first into the heavens, then he nodded.
"Yeah, what's up, pal?" He asked slightly shakily.

Diego felt the sweat tingle on his back as it was kissed by the setting sun behind him, widening his eyes at the startled sheriff that appeared at the door. He seemed on edge... but Diego wasn't here to enquire into the Sheriff's personal life, or mental state.
"Sheriff Dayes?" he asked, his voice deep and rough, much like his appearance had become over the past few days, the rough stubble thickening upon his chin " I've got something I was told you'd be... interested in?". He folded his arms lightly as he awaited the mans reaction

The Sheriff cleared his throat then swallowed hard.
It couldn't have been anything...unworldly. They didn't exist.
"Alright. Where is it?" He asked in his now usual calm tones, though his eyes still tended to dart to the sky every so often. He released his grip on the door and opened it wider now, allowing a little more sight into the unlit rooms down the hall.

Diego Stayed silent for a few seconds longer, dark eyes watching as the man seemed to be inspecting the sky. He turned his back and strolled to his car, hands popping the back end of it open "In the Trunk..." he replied simply "...you'd better take a look for yourself...".
Taking a few steps back, he folded his arms once again, head gesturing in a slight nod to what lay, out of the sheriff's view, in the trunk of his car. The sight of it made him heave inside, though it didn't show upon his tough facial expression. He'd seen things close to, but not as bad, as what was in there...

Dayes raised an eyebrow, then disapeared inside for a moment, before coming out, with one shoe on and in the process of pulling on the other. He held a torch in the free hand.
"What's this?" He asked approching the car.
At first what he saw was a slab of meat, maybe a pig. It then occured to him that this 'slab of meat' had a human head (What was left of it anyway) and one arm. The other arm was cut in such a way that it's bones were showing, along with strands of muscle fiber. The torso was in tatters, the same incisions as on the cows.
"Jesus!" The Sheriff exclaimed and turned away quickly. It was beginning to smell. Quite a sickly sweet smell, not much unlike Bessie. He swallowed hard and took a step away from the car. "Where'd you find it?" He asked the man, turning his head just enough to see him, but not far enough to see the corpse.

Diego's expression didn't change at all as he watched the sheriffs reaction at the slaughtered corpse that lay in the boiling trunk. The hot air just made the smell worse... finally, he lifted a hand to cover his nose from it. " The edge of Town... where that sign says 'Welcome to New Winchester"... though it said nothing about 'Mind the sliced up corpses on your way in"..." he replied, his voice cold and stern. He didn't like to show it.... but he was shit-scared... wouldn't you be?
He glanced at his watch... the night was getting deeper, he couldn't continue his drive, he was too tired already. Lifting his gaze back up to the sheriff he raised a brow "You must have some messed up criminals in this town, Sheriff... "

The Sheriff reached back and pushed down the trunk before turning around properly.
"...I'm gunna need - " He began, then cleared his throat. "I'm gunna need to ask you some questions, get some of those forensics in from the city..." Anybody could see that the sheriff was shook up. This was definatly getting too wierd for comfort.
There was no way the mutilations were anything to do with the people around this town. It could be something to do with the government, but everything seemed to be fitting together in his head. Even he, the stubborn old Sheriff was beginning to see something with these UFO's.

Diego let a long, deep sigh come up from his throat, escaping his lips into the night air. He wasn't pleased... he wasn't planning on hanging around in the middle of nowhere, explaining how he found a mutilated person in a field.
"Is this going to take long..." he replied harshly, letting his arms fold once more "... I mean, I'd be glad to answer some questions an all, but I need to know what the hell is going on myself....". He strolled towards the front of his car, where he let an arm slide in through the open window, turning on the ignition to allow the music to flow once again. After that, he returned to where he was standing before, head nodding gently to the beat.

"Look - what's your name?" The Sheriff started.
"Diego." Came the simple reply.
"Yeah well, look Diego..." He lowered his tone and stepped closer to the man. "..No-one knows what's goin' on...Trust me, we won't keep you long. Just the basics, then you can get the hell outta here..." Nate wanted to add 'I don't think i'll be here for much longer either' but decided against it.
A few seconds of silence ensued, Diego shook his head, and the Sheriff looked at the trunk of the car. "Jesus..." He said under his breath. "You wanna go for a beer first?"

Diego stood silently, watching the sheriff. Finally a smile broke the stern expression upon his face. "Now your talking my language.... Sheriff" he replied, nodding his head. He could really do with a cold one... his throat was dry and he'd been driving solid for about a day. Despite what had been happening since his arrival... this seemed like his kind of town... it was quiet, good scenery... and the Sheriff already invited him for drink. "Heh... but your driving..." he added, letting his arms drop down to his sides, hands burying themselves into the baggy pockets of his jeans

The Sheriff didn't smile. He wanted to, but he couldn't fake one.
"Alright, we'll take your car to the station, and walk from there..." He said making his way to the driving side of the car and opening the door of the muscle car.
Diego peered around the side of the Sheriffs house then got into the passenger side. He didn't expect the cop to take his car, not that it mattered too much, he thought as the car pulled out of the drive as towards the station.
